We have been following along with the Italian women’s soccer team as they played qualifiers for the soccer World Cup in Canada. I live in Portland, Oregon which is very close to the action up in Canada. So, the excitement is palpable as the tournament unfolds this week, only hours away from my hometown.
I had been very much looking forward to following the Italian women’s soccer team as they played in the World Cup so close by; alas, that is not to be the case. Italy lost to The Netherlands in the play-off game that determined who would take the remaining world cup berth: http://www.uefa.com/womensworldcup/season=2015/teams/team=500066/index.html
But, the "show must go on", as they say….
Each time the Women’s World cup gains more momentum and the enthusiasm for the sport worldwide has been growing by leaps and bounds building up to the 2015 World Cup in Canada. Italy will have their "place in the sun" some day as they have a strong team and come from a country with a strong soccer (calcio) tradition.
Here is an article about the opening of the tournament, for those that want to follow along: http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/news/y=2015/m=6/news=all-eyes-on-canada-for-opening-action-2618453.html
Ci sentiamo presto,
Lina
