It is going to be awhile until La Squadra Azzurra play another qualifier match for World Cup 2014. In fact, the next scheduled game is on the 7th of June against the Czech Republic and we will certainly be writing an article about that game.

But, for now we can at least take stock of how far Italy have come in the competition. They are at the top of their group right now with 13 points. But, it is important to note that Italy have only played 5 matches, whereas Bulgaria, which is currently second in the standings has played 6 matches so far, so interim results may be a bit misleading. Certainly, being at the top of the standings of Group B in Europe puts Italy squarely where they need to be for the moment in order to advance.

For those of you following along with the qualifiers, here is the link to the full set of fixtures for Europe:

A couple of interesting facts that are mentioned in this profile:

  • · Italy have contested 17 of the 19 FIFA World Cup™ final tournaments held to date
  • · Italy have four world titles to their name (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) and two runners-up slots (1970 and 1994)

Ci sentiamo presto, Lina
