700 places to discover in Italy this weekend

I read an article about the upcoming Giornate FAI di Primavera, the annual event put on by the FAI ( Fondo Ambiente Italiano ) organization opening up places to discover all throughout Italy. If you are in Italy this weekend, you are in luck!! It sounds like there will plenty of interesting places to visit for free.

Here is my translation to English of a short excerpt of the article:

On 23 and 24 March the return of the spring appointment with culture with free admission and free contribution.

Experience the many different stories that tell one big story, ours, through works of art, gorgeous surroundings and places seemingly familiar yet surprising. And "recognize each unknown" thanks to these common feelings and moods that make us feel closer to each other. This is what will happen during the XXI FAI Spring Days, scheduled for Saturday 23 and Sunday, March 24, 2013.

Seven hundred places throughout Italy will open with free visits thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 7,000 volunteers, 116 delegations, 42 Groups FAI, FAI Youth Groups 44 and the collaboration of the Apprendisti Ciceroni ®, the 21 000 apprentices, young students who will explain historical-artistic monuments.

Here is my translation to English of some of the information about the FAI organization and this event: http://www.giornatafai.it/

The FAI or Fondo Ambiente Italiano ( Italian Environmental Fund) was founded to promote a culture of respect for nature, art, history and traditions of Italy. It is a non-profit National Endowment organization that helps preserve the natural and artistic heritage of Italy. They have several important objectives, but according to their web site, here are a couple of them:

  • We appeal to people of all ages with activities of education and awareness
  • We take care of the landscape at risk and threatened
  • Sensitize the business community through corporate volunteering initiatives and projects of Corporate Social Responsibility

Ci sentiamo presto, Lina
